SueAnn “SuSu” McWatters will be head coaching our 12.1 and 16.1 teams this season! She brings decades of competitive experience and a passion for helping athletes reach their full potential.
She began playing volleyball recreationally in high school and stepped into competitive play in college. Since then, she has developed expertise in 6s, 4s, coed, and women’s volleyball, competing at adult nationals multiple times. She continues to play at a high level in adult tournaments and leagues, often alongside former players she has coached.
With over 15 years of coaching experience, SuSu has worked with athletes from 12s through 18s. She has been with Aspire NW (formerly NW Reign) for 14 seasons and has led teams to nationals multiple times, including competing in the Open division for the past three years. Her coaching philosophy is simple: grit and grind. She believes that hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard and that heart is what separates the good from the great.
Outside of volleyball, SuSu enjoys snowboarding, pickleball, Korean BBQ, and salad rolls. She is also a big fan of anime (Solo Leveling), Pokémon (Raichu), and video games (Call of Duty: Black Ops). A fun fact about SuSu is that she was adopted from South Korea!
