Matt Hartner 2026

This volleyball tournament is dedicated to Matt Hartner, a young man who loved the sport of volleyball and had a tremendous impact on the vision & growth of this tournament. His passion for volleyball started when he was just 9 years old. He grew up helping the Gresham High School VB program and the former Nike NW Juniors Volleyball Club - later to become Adidas NW Jrs.

Matt joined the Oregon program in 2002 as an undergraduate manager and played on the Oregon men’s club volleyball team. He graduated from Oregon in 2006 with a political science degree and a minor in business.  After graduating Matt continued with the volleyball program as a graduate assistant.  While Matt was always a constant with Oregon volleyball, he officially rejoined the staff for the 2009 season as a volunteer assistant & running the Oregon summer camps for 6 years. Matt returned to his roots and coached the top 18s with Adidas NW & was the Head Coach at Mt. Hood Community College.  He became the Associate Head Coach at Gresham High School for 3 years, while continuing to grow Oregon’s annual MLK weekend tournament. With Matts passing, the event name was changed to the Matt Hartner Memorial Classic (MHM) in 2015.

Matt was a staple in the Oregon Ducks, Columbia Empire & OSAA volleyball programs for over 20 years. We cherish his contributions, involvement, and the vision he had for this great event in the Northwest , now named after him.

18's/17's will begin play at 8:00 am

16's/15's will begin play at 3:00 pm with 24 teams playing in 8:00am start

24 teams in the 16/15s age group will play Saturday AM. These teams will be mostly from CEVA Region and all these teams will be notified in advance. Check with club director.

Playing sites change daily depending on finish after play each day.

Saturday and Sunday is pool play with 4-team pools. Best 2/3 sets. No Cap, win by 2. Monday is single-elimination bracket play.

The 18’s - 17s will have one division. 104 teams

The 16s & 15s will have 1 division. 152 teams

NOTE: There could be a crossover with other pools on Saturday one set to 15 pts. to determine pool play finish

ALL coaches should not leave arena without checking play or ref status with the tournament desk.

MONDAY IS SINGLE ELIMINATION FOR ALL TEAMS AT ALL SITES. LOSING TEAM WILL REF THE NEXT MATCH ON THAT CT.

TEAMS WILL BE NOTIFIED AS THE DAY DOES ON IF THEY DONT HAVE TO REF. WE ALSO KNOW TEAMS TRAVEL & ALWAYS ARE

WORKING TO FIND LOCAL TEAMS TO COVER FOR A TEAM TRAVELING. NO REF ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE CHANGED ATLEAST

UNTIL WE GET CLOSER TO MID AFTERNOON MATCHES. ***TEAMS LEAVING & NOT DOING THEIR REF ASSIGNMENT WILL NOT

BE ACCEPTED BACK IN TO THE EVENT ALONG WITH THE HEAD COACH!!!

Each court will have an R1 provided. Teams must provide a R2, two line judges, a scorekeeper, a score flipper, & a libero tracker. Teams late for officiating will be penalized 1 point for every minute they are late, starting from when the last team finished their warm-up. Points will be assessed at the team's next match. Complete no show will incur a 10 point penalty for first 2 sets of their next match.

On the last day of the event in bracket play: Losing team ref’s next match on their court no matter the age group or division. When we get to matches in the afternoon, the tournament head official & tournament director will try to get teams from Canada, Montana, Idaho & California on the road _ (winning teams that just played one of those teams may be asked to ref the next match. We will do our best to help with all situations as day moves on. NO TEAM is released to leave until approval from head official or tournament director is given, Violating team may be subject from not being accepted the following year ALONG WITH THE HEAD COACH. Please make sure all coaches are aware of this.

Venues will have plenty of seating provided. Leave your personal chairs at home or in your car. Personal chairs ok ONLY in camping areas of Moshofsky Center, Mac Court.

Moshofsky has about 6 food vendors inside the arena - coffee, bbq, noodles, mexican, donuts.  Fine Designs will be doing custom MHM t-shirts, hoodies, pants & other items. The Duck Store is also located in the Mo Center for Duck stuff.  There are tables and chairs indoors to be used for all food purchased from the vendors at “The MO”. NO FOOD anywhere else in the facility.  All coolers must be kept outside the arena under the large tent. Food from coolers can be eaten inside at the tables - but coolers must not be brought inside. Clear areaas soon as done eating

Bob Keefer Rec Center sometimes has a coffee truck & BBQ truck our front. Fine Designs will also be on location selling custom event apparel.  No tents in the parking lot.

Mac Court & Student Rec courts are located in the center of University of Oregon campus. There is lots & lots of room for teams to set up a table & cooler with food in hallways of Mac Court (NOT anywhere in Student Rec Center. Coffee, food 2 blocks to the right of Mac Court @ Erb Memorial Student Center.

Outside food is only allowed in the designated areas at all 3 playing sites. Outside food / coolers only allowed in designated areas inside the Bob Keefer Center. Lots of fast food etc. close drive or short walk from playing site.

Moshofsky Center - NO FOOD OR SNACKS EVER IN THE CAMPING AREA. A 10-point penalty for each offense can be administered by the tournament staff. There will be an outdoor tent at the Moshofsky Center , providing protection from the elements for teams coolers & tables.

There is no cooking of food allowed at any of the 3 play sites or Autzen Stadium RV parking areas. RV parking at Autzen stadium is free - patrolled by U of O police. DO NOT park across parking stalls or any handicap spots. NO BBQ’s No Awnings Lot 4
